From 2024, we are relaunching the only production plant in the world that specializes in the production of genuine Karlovy Vary salt – a natural mineral product made from the thermal water of legendary springs.
Our Story
Carlsbad sprudel salt has been produced in the Czech Republic, in the renowned spa town of Karlovy Vary, for over 140 years. The idea for producing this healing salt originated with Carlsbad physician Gottfried Berger, who was the first to propose using salt obtained by evaporating mineral water as early as 1708.
Today, Karlovarská sůl s.r.o. — the Leon family's family business — combines historical traditions with state-of-the-art technologies. Our goal is to produce the highest quality product and to spread awareness of Carlsbad salt throughout the world.
We believe that its healing properties and natural purity deserve international recognition. Every salt crystal produced in our facility is the result of gentle thermal water processing, modern quality control, and deep respect for centuries of tradition. We are proud to continue this exceptional tradition and make it accessible to new generations — both in the Czech Republic and abroad.

A Journey Through Centuries of Spa Salt Production
First mining attempts
The first attempts to extract spa salt from the Karlovy Vary springs. Local inhabitants noticed the high mineral content in the famous thermal springs.
Technological revolution
Modernization of production technology under the leadership of Ernst Ludwig. He introduced advanced evaporation and crystallization methods, which laid the foundation for today's production.
Scientific recognition
Medical studies have confirmed the therapeutic effects of Karlovy Vary salt. Demand grew exponentially throughout Europe.
Plant modernization
Investment of 15 million euros in extensive production modernization. Expansion of the product range to include mineral baths and new packaging formats.
EU Organic certification
Introduction of a new recipe with an emphasis on naturalness. The product has obtained EU Organic certification and strengthened its position on the international market.

How Carlsbad salt is made
The production of Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt takes place in the only facility of its kind in the world. Thermal water pumped from a depth of over 1500 meters undergoes a gentle filtration and evaporation process, creating a purely natural mixture of over 25 minerals.
The product contains no artificial additives or preservatives. The entire process — from pumping the spring water to packaging the finished product — takes place under strict quality control in accordance with BIO, ORGANIC EU, and the National Institute of Public Health certifications.
