Kolik litrů vody je potřeba na výrobu karlovarské soli?

At first glance, the box of Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt may seem like a minor product. In reality, however, there is a fascinating story behind this small box, involving thousands of liters of natural thermal water and more than 30 hours of delicate processing for a single batch. So, how much water is needed to produce a 100g package of this unique salt?

Thermal Spring Water as a Unique Natural Resource

Karlovy Vary thermal spring water, which springs from a depth of approximately 2,500 meters, is naturally enriched with minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium, with their concentration being approximately 5.5–6.4 g per liter. This concentration of minerals means that a significant amount of water needs to be removed to obtain the salt.

Production Process: From Water to Crystals

The production of Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt is a two-step process:

  1. Thickening (13 hours): A total of 8,325 liters of thermal water is first purified and then evaporated, creating a concentrated solution, called brine, with higher mineralization (110–120 g/l). This results in approximately 300 liters of concentrated solution.
  2. Crystallization (18 hours): The concentrate is enriched with CO2 (carbonation) and sprayed in hot air at a temperature of around 95 °C, leading to the formation of fine powdered salt. From about 300 liters of concentrate, approximately 28 kg of the final product is produced.

The entire process takes approximately 31 hours and is carried out without chemical additives, with an emphasis on preserving the natural mineral composition.

Key Data: How Much Water Is in One Box

Technological data show that approximately 297 liters of thermal water are needed to produce 1 kg of Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt. This means that about 30 liters of thermal spring water are required for one 100g box, which for reference, corresponds to 60 standard half-liter bottles of mineral water.

Why So Much Water Is Needed

Minerals in the thermal spring water are naturally diluted. The production process focuses on concentrating them without disturbing their structure. The result is a product that retains the character of the original thermal water but in a concentrated form.

What This Means for the Customer

Karlovy Vary spring salt is not ordinary cooking salt. It is obtained from mineral water and continues the spa tradition. Pack contents, ingredients and preparation instructions are provided for each product.

Conclusion

According to the production process described here, approximately 30 litres of natural thermal water go into making one 100 g box of Karlovy Vary spring salt; processing a batch takes more than 30 hours. The product’s story begins deep underground and continues through production to the finished pack.
